Botox is a beneficial treatment for many lines and wrinkles on the face. It’s designed to help you get that youthful look back in your skin. But does Botox fix 11 lines, also known as frown lines?

Botox is an FDA-approved solution for eliminating fine lines and wrinkles that start to show as we age. It can also be used to treat other conditions from spinal discomfort to excessive blinking! But what exactly is Botox, and how does it work?
Botox is the commercial name and abbreviation for a drug produced from a toxin called Botulinum toxin. It’s a protein — more specifically, a neurotoxin — produced by a bacterium. When injected into select muscle groups in the face, it interacts with a neurotransmitter to paralyze or “freeze” the muscles that cause wrinkles or folds.
While the term “neurotoxin” might sound scary, the Botox prescription formula is completely safe and FDA-approved. An experienced professional like Dr. Willis at New England Laser Lipo administers it in small, concentrated doses only to the areas that need treatment.
Botox is inserted into what are referred to as “dynamic” areas, like between the eyebrows or around the nose and eyes. Unlike dermal fillers, which is an injection of collagen under the skin, Botox is injected directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles. This results in smoother skin lasting anywhere from three to six months, and most patients report minimal swelling or redness.
The reason you might not see the effects right away is because the protein needs time to work in the muscles it’s targeting. Just like other molecules traveling through the body, the body has to recognize the protein and react to it, a process which can take a few days. Most patients report seeing results soon after treatment, but everyone’s body is different.
The body also will eventually metabolize Botox, so the effects will gradually begin to fade. Fortunately, this does not cause the wrinkles or fine lines to return any deeper than they were before treatment. Dr. Willis will work with you to create a customized treatment plan to keep your youthful look.
