Should I Get Botox or Dermal Fillers?
Wednesday, March 18th, 2020
Botox and dermal fillers are both quality options to reverse aging and the impact of fine lines and wrinkles on your skin. But which one is right for you? Dermal fillers and Botox can have different impacts and are better at targeting specific things. Dr. Paul Willis of New England Laser Lipo discusses whether you should get dermal fillers or Botox in Worcester, MA.
Botox
Botox is one of the most trusted formulas for facial aesthetics. It’s FDA-approved and has been used successfully for over 15 years. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles by blocking the nerves used to send signals. This means that your facial muscles that contract to make wrinkles and lines won’t be able to when the Botox is active.
Botox is primarily used to treat wrinkles on your forehead and between your eyebrows, around your eyes, and around your nose. It lasts about three to four months.
Dermal Fillers
At New England Laser Lipo, we offer three different kinds of dermal fillers: Juvederm, Belotero Balance, and Radiesse. Both Juvederm and Belotero are fillers that utilize hyaluronic acid. This is a substance that’s naturally found in the body. It helps to provide fullness and volume to our face, giving it a youthful glow. As we get older, this naturally diminishes.
Juvederm is the only HA dermal filler that’s approved for use on all skin types and colors. However, both HA types of dermal fillers work to restore volume to your skin. This helps to smooth out any wrinkles and folds that you have problems with. Both Juvederm and Belotero last for six months or longer.
Radiesse is a longer-lasting dermal filler that can produce results for up to a year or more. If you’ve used HA fillers in the past, you may want to try this for smoothness that lasts longer. Radiesse uses what are called calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres. These form a type of scaffolding that encourages natural collagen production in your body, shaping your face and getting rid of lines and wrinkles.
Which is Right for Me?
Botox and dermal fillers treat similar issues, but in different ways. Some may also be designed to treat only certain areas, so it can depend on which part of your face you want to focus on. Dermal fillers utilize volume to get rid of lines and wrinkles, while Botox actually neutralizes those muscles that form the lines and wrinkles. So it also depends on which you think would be more beneficial to you.
If you don’t think that your face has lost much volume due to age, Botox may be the way to go. Simply relax those muscles instead of getting rid of wrinkles with fullness. However, one of the best benefits of dermal fillers is that they last longer on average. With Botox, you won’t usually see results any longer than six months. Dermal fillers can last for six months and beyond.
