New Approach to Liposuction | Laser Liposuction Worcester

For anyone considering liposuction, it’s good to know your options. Many may reject liposuction all together because traditional liposuction is a very invasive surgical procedure. The technique used in traditional liposuction involves a stainless steel tube, called a cannula. Small incisions are made in the skin, where the cannula will be placed into the fat, creating small tunnels. The cannula is connected to a suction pump which then removes the fat, through the tunnels. After the process is done, the tunnels shrink and eventually disappear during the healing process. While this does result in an improved body, is the invasive procedure and potential risks worth it?

Luckily, there is now a new type of liposuction available: Laser Liposuction. Laser lipo became FDA approved in November of 2006. It is also known as smart lipo and provides “minimally invasive body contouring with immediate results”, as stated by the New England Laser Lipo website. Another benefit is that there are fewer side effects than with traditional liposuction and the healing time is much quicker.

Still not convinced that laser liposuction is the best choice? Consider this: laser lipo is much safer because a local anesthetic is used during the procedure and there is less bleeding. Because of the anesthesia there is no pain during the process. Even after the anesthesia has worn off there will only be minimal aches and pains.

Another bonus is that most patients will only need one treatment per body area, with each treatment only taking 45 minutes to one hour.

It was mentioned earlier that the recovery time for smart lipo is much quicker than with traditional liposuction. Just how much quicker is it? Most patients are able to return to work immediately, although they are advised to take a day or two off. The recovery time for traditional lipo is one to two weeks!

And most importantly, how long until results are seen? With smart lipo, you will see some results immediately, with improvement over the next three to six months. It takes about a week for results to be seen from traditional liposuction, with the best results also showing in the next couple months.
