Laser Lipo

Liposuction is a popular form of cosmetic surgery many individuals choose to help them get rid of fat pockets that dieting has failed to address. Over the years, the field of liposuction has undergone many technological advances. These new methods enable a plastic surgeon to remove unhealthy fat deposits more easily and with far less pain to the patient than before. The latest method in this field of development is the FDA approved laser lipo technique.

What is Laser Lipo?

Laser lipo is a safe, less-invasive method of body contouring and sculpturing than traditional liposuction. An in-office procedure, it permanently eliminates body fat cells while promoting skin tightening. Under a local anesthetic, the plastic surgeon makes a small incision in the skin at the place of treatment. He inserts a tube through the opening and then gently guides a laser through the tube towards the adipose tissue. The laser emits a beam of intense heat that bursts the fat cells and melts the fat. Unlike traditional liposuction, the laser has the added advantage of stimulating collagen production to help tighten up the skin.

Qualifications and Treatment

Qualifications for laser lipo treatments are the same as for traditional liposuction. If a candidate has excess body fat that traditional dieting and exercise programs have not resolved, then the candidate qualifies for the procedure. Treatment can be performed anywhere that stubborn fat deposits are found. That includes the abdomen, thighs, and hips as well as the face, neck and back. It can also improve cellulite and areas of flabby, loose skin. Generally, only one treatment per area is necessary, and the total procedure takes less than an hour.

Laser Lipo Results

Since the laser destroys the fat cells, patients experience results immediately, but improvements can continue for up to six months. The laser lipo results are permanent because the body only has a certain number of fat cells it can use to store excess body fat. When an individual gains weight, those body fat cells expand. Any new weight gain can only occur in areas where laser lipo was not performed.
